REVIEW: Galaxy A56 brings AI to Samsung's mid-range devices 1q3j1d

We reviewed Samsung's first Galaxy A smartphone with AI. Find out what we think of it

O Galaxy A56 is the new bet of Samsung regarding the brand's best mid-range model. Although it brings subtle improvements over the models of the last two years, it offers a major novelty: Artificial Intelligence. Even so, is it worth investing in it? Find out all the details now in our Galaxy A56 review! 5bil

Design 493g4d

As the owner of a Galaxy A54, the first thing I noticed when I picked it up Galaxy A56 in hand for the first time was its considerable increase in size. It jumped from 6,4 to 6,7 inches in the new version, making it taller than the model from two years ago. Another change (this one I liked more) was in its edges, now made of metal, something that had already been implemented last year with the A55. Along the edges, the side design also brought an engraving in the places where the buttons are so that it is easy to see where they are through touch. I like the decision, but I think it could be a little more noticeable.

And speaking of buttons, they remain, and in the same positions, located on the right side of the smartphone, with the power button, volume + and volume -. Continuing along the edges, we find a stereo sound output, a USB-C port, chip drawer and microphones at the bottom. The left side has nothing and the top has two more microphones.

Side of the Galaxy A56 (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

Its back is made of glass, with technology Corning Gorilla Glass Victor+, giving the smartphone more security in case of falls. It also gained a new camera module, now ing the three lenses instead of leaving them separate, however, I noticed that they were super protruding, a danger for those who use the device without a case (not recommended for this model).

Another technology present here is the IP67, which provides resistance to dust or water up to 1 meter deep and for up to 30 minutes, something that has been present in the line since the A54 also. The Galaxy A56 arrives in Brazil in colors pink, gray, green (which we tested) and black.

Finally, a very impressive feature here is its weight of 198g, lighter than the other two previous models, even maintaining similar measurements to the A55. Such as Samsung I don't know why this happened, but I think it's very welcome. In the box, we have the smartphone, the key to open the chip drawer, a power cable and a 15W power supply, which we'll go into more detail about below.

Fabric 5p3y6b

The Galaxy A56's screen is very bright, reaching up to 1900 nits at its peak (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

O Galaxy A56 comes equipped with a 6,7-inch screen and technology Super AMOLED, a great standard already established by the manufacturer. It has up to 120Hz of variable refresh rate, but it is not like a top of the line (going from 1 to 120Hz), limited to changing from 60Hz or 120Hz here.

The screen brightness is 1200 nits and can reach an incredible 1900 nits at its peak, excellent for use on any occasion. In a practical test with the A54 that I use, the improvement is significant and makes a big difference in everyday life. The colors also maintain excellent contrast, in addition to maintaining the HDR10 +.

For screen protection, the smartphone has the Corning Gorilla Victus+, ensuring that it does not scratch easily, in addition to having more guarantee against accidental drops. The front camera still has a hole in the upper part right in the middle, a place that I like.

About screen resolution Galaxy A56, it remains the Full HD + (1080 x 2340) and at no point did I feel like I needed more resolution here. Everything looks good and watching movies, series, videos on YouTube and even playing games provides a very pleasant experience.

Processor 6j5h1a

Exynos 1580 chipset, included in the Galaxy A56 (Image: Samsung)

The processor used to make the Galaxy A56 working is the Exynos 1580, successor to the 1480 of the Galaxy A55. It is 4nm and brings some new features. The main one involves its cores. They are divided by Cortex-A720 e Cortex-A520, the first focused on high-performance activities and the second on energy efficiency. The big difference here is that even though it is octa-core, the Cortex-A720 was divided into two, bringing one of its cores with even more performance. With that, its specifications are as follows: 1 Cortex A-720 of 2,9 GHz, 3 Cortex A-720 of 2,6 GHz and 4 Cortex A-520 of 1,9 GHz.

This change makes the device fly, even though it has specifications very similar to its older brothers. For graphics, the device has the xclipse 540, compatible with RDNA3 and about 37% more powerful than the model used in the A55, proving to be well prepared for more advanced games.

Still, it can't be compared to the performance of a top-of-the-line smartphone like those in the line Galaxy S, however, it is quite promising as an advancement of the line itself.

The games tested here were Minecraft, Freefire MAX e Asphalt 8 and the performance of each of them was great. What allowed me to tinker with the details the most was the free fire and in it I was able to activate higher refresh rates, even with the graphics on high, a very welcome experience.

Insights 5v2y2t

We tested the Galaxy A56 in two applications benchmarking and then you can check the results for each one. that this type of test is just a metric to give us an idea of your strength and does not reflect 100% of your performance.

AnTuTu Benchmark 4z4qh

O Galaxy A56 did very well in AnTuTu, reaching almost 900 thousand points. This put it almost in the top 50 of the app, close to devices like Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S23 FE, Google Pixel 8 and others.

Geekbench 6 5h4e25

O Geekbench 6 It brings multicore, single-core and GPU tests. Below you can check each of them:

System and interface 507155

Galaxy A56 comes with One UI 7 and Android 15 (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

O Galaxy A56 arrives in Brazil with Android 15 factory, under the interface One UI 7.0, the latest from the manufacturer. This is a long-awaited update for fans of the brand and I myself was quite curious, but what new features does it bring?

First, the lock screen has changed the way notifications appear. Now, they appear as cards, or in the status bar. Before, they could appear as icons or details, or not even appear here at all. This is a change that, honestly, I didn't like, although the cards are very nice.

Another big change is in the quick settings . In the previous version, it was already possible to leave the left side for notifications and the right for quick functions, but here the system is more intuitive. In addition, it is now possible to change the order of the quick options, in addition to new touch and hold gestures, such as on the volume and brightness sliders.

The notification bars and quick settings have been redesigned with One UI 7 on the Galaxy A56 (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

A new function called Nearby Devices was also implemented and it really caught my attention. Basically, with a swipe of your fingers, you instantly connect other devices Galaxy, whether they are tablets, other smartphones or headphones. Plus, when connected, they allow you to configure noise cancellation and other quick settings on those devices.

New feature makes it easier to manage Galaxy devices (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

My only complaint is that there are too many steps to access these “quick” functions. There could be some kind of quick widget when the headphones are connected, for example. Along with this, we have the great new feature of the system: Now Bar. She is very pretty and intuitive… for some things. The version of Samsung da Dynamic Island It works in a different way, but I feel like sometimes it tries to be too different and it's not that functional.

For example, when playing a song, it only appears on the lock screen, while on competitors you can see it at any time next to the front camera. In addition, it is possible to expand the cards of the Now Bar on the lock screen, but the system does not memorize the expanded music player, making this habit somewhat annoying and even useless over time.

Another example, when we activate a timer in the clock app, the top left part where the notifications are located is replaced by a quick menu for that clock, something beautiful and super useful, which could be implemented in music apps and many others, but which, in practice, only works in about five system apps.

Some functions of the Now Bar on the Galaxy A56 (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

Otherwise, the apps have new icons, new widgets and everything is super fluid. I have zero problems with the changes themselves, except in some cases when they seem like a step backwards or just change for the sake of it, without bringing any real benefit to the system. Perhaps these problems will be fixed in new security patches in the coming months, but if not, we'll just have to wait for One UI 8.

Still, it's good to know that the Galaxy A56 platform delivers 6 years of update, both Android and security, which is great news for consumers. This will take it all the way to Android 21.

Artificial Intelligence 3su26

Galaxy A56 is Samsung's first mid-range device to feature artificial intelligence (Image: Samsung)

Let's get the white elephant out of the room and say: Galaxy A56 does not come with Galaxy A.I.. Because it has a more powerful and updated processor, it lends some intelligent functions that, in fact, use Artificial Intelligence, however, do not expect powerful features such as expanding an image, translating in real time and others.

The first feature available on this Galaxy A with Artificial Intelligence is the object eraser, which is nothing new, but can be very useful in cases where you take a cool selfie or family photo and a nosy person ends up in the image. It is very easy to use, requiring you to go to the gallery, tap on the Galaxy stars and choose the function, if available in the photo. Interestingly, as soon as you choose it, the system already analyzes the image for possible things to be deleted. You can also use the Magnetic loop to draw in specific locations and see the result.

Keep in mind that the more complex the image details, the harder it is to get a good result with this function. Below, you can see two examples, one simpler and one more complex:

Practical use of AI with the object eraser feature (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)
I tested the feature on a selfie with more elements and the result was not so interesting (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

Another feature brought to the Galaxy A56 it was the Best face. It identifies when someone has their eyes closed, squinted or has strange expressions and improves this with the help of AI. Unfortunately, I couldn't see this feature working for me at all, but you can check out the video below:

Os Custom Filters are another new feature in the A line. With them, you can use both predefined filters from the system or create new ones from scratch. The most interesting thing is that you can choose a photo from your gallery to become the default filter for that image. This idea won't always work out well, but it's a pretty cool concept. Check out some of the results:

Notice how the filters are applied based on photos from my gallery (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

For videos, we have the feature Automatic cutting and this one really disappointed me. When I read about it, I imagined that it could be smart enough to assemble cuts of videos, making life easier for the content creator, for example, to play their videos on Reels, TikTok ou youtube shorts. The truth is that, besides taking a long time to process, the result is always very strange, with cuts that don't really show the video's highlights. It simply shortens the video to a random moment and that's it. Artificial, yes, but not so intelligent.

Regarding the resource called AI selection, it's basically a way to make screenshots easier. Instead of marking every corner when taking a screenshot, now you just draw and wait for the magic to happen. I really liked this feature and it even allows you to set the captured image as a wallpaper. Good feature.

Finally, who uses Samsung Internet, the official browser for Galaxy smartphones, now has the option of Read aloud on your favorite sites. Just tap the four-star Samsung symbol and wait for it to read aloud. It's also a cool feature, but I can't use any browser other than Chrome, unfortunately.

Memory and Storage 6e433w

Memory and storage on the Galaxy A56 (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

O Galaxy A56 was launched in Brazil in two versions: one with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage and another with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The storage technology used is UFS 3.1, fast, but inferior to the version 4.0 available in top-of-the-line models.

We had a downgrade around here, after all, both the A55 as much as A54 have memory card slots, something that was cut in the A56. Considering that the device has eSIM technology, it was possible to use one of the chip slots for the memory card.

O Galaxy A56 is compatible with RAMPlus and can be expanded up to 8GB. Another important detail is that, outside Brazil, there is a version with 12GB of RAM, but here this should only be for the A57, perhaps?

Connectivity 4l5267

Bottom with main connections of the Galaxy A56 (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

O Galaxy A56 maintains the same technologies as previous versions in of connections. It has Wi-Fi 6 e Bluetooth 5.3, in addition to the optical fingerprint sensor under the screen. Although they are not the latest technologies possible, it cannot be said that they are bad either, after all, they work very well and fulfill their purpose.

New to last year's model, the Galaxy A56 maintains eSIM technology, ensuring greater security for chips. You can use two eSIMs at once or a physical chip and a virtual chip, limited to a maximum of 2.

The chip drawer is now dual SIM, but without a memory card slot (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

For charging and data transfer, the smartphone has a USB-C port on the bottom with 2.0 technology. This is where you will also connect your wired headphones, using an adapter or headphones with a USB-C input.

It is also worth mentioning the for NFC technology for less payments, in addition, of course, to the inclusion of GPS for using map applications.

Audio 1q5573

The Galaxy A56's sound quality is excellent (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

For a good use of sound experiences, the Galaxy A56 It has two speakers, one above the front camera and another at the bottom, next to the USB-C, creating a stereo sound experience. The quality is very satisfactory, both for playing games and for watching and listening to music. Of course, it can't compare to using a speaker, for example, but, for a cell phone, it's excellent.

A Samsung keep putting the certification Dolby Atmos around here, making the sound even more full-bodied. I only miss a headphone port, but this really died in more advanced smartphones, remaining only as a feature of input devices, unfortunately.

For device s Bluetooth, it s the following CODECs: A2DP e LE.

Battery and charging 676o3i

The Galaxy A5000's 56mAh battery is quite capable (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

O Galaxy A56 brings, once again, a battery of 5000mAh, a number that has already become a standard among Android devices. In practice, it represents a performance of almost two days of very moderate use and one day of more intensive use.

My day to day with him was using the Instagram, YouTube, Camera and music on Bluetooth headphones. Under these conditions, with moderate use, I managed to get a day and a half of battery life, a good value, but not surprising either. Because it has more brightness and a larger screen, the result is good because it maintains what its older brothers did without having to increase the battery size.

The new feature here, however, is for charging up to 45W from the outlet. With this charger, it reaches 65% in 30 minutes and reaches a full charge in 68 minutes. The downside is that this charger needs to be purchased, since the one in the box is only 15W.

Rear cameras 5fa5r

REVIEW: Galaxy A56 brings AI to Samsung's mid-range devices

O Galaxy A56 brings three rear lenses in its camera kit, which is nothing new in the brand's A50 line, but are they better? Regarding the numbers, they are the same lenses as the Galaxy A54. This isn't bad at all, except for the macro lens which is pretty simple. Let's get into the details:

  • Wide 50MP as the main lens, with a 1/1,56″ sensor, optical image stabilization and f/1,8 aperture;
  • 12MP Ultra-Wide, with 1/3,06″ sensor, 123° and f/2,2 aperture;
  • 5MP macro lens, with an aperture of f/2,4.

In practice, what we will use most will be the lenses. Wide e ultra-wide which, in my experience, I consider to be good cameras. In ideal conditions, the colors and details are excellent on the main lens, but I feel that the lack of resolution is lacking on the ultra-wide, especially in night shots. Considering that the macro lens is not that great, it would be cooler and more attractive, next year, for the company to opt for an improvement on the ultra-wide lens instead of keeping a macro camera that almost no one will actually use.

In the selfie, we had a downgrade in of numbers, leaving from 32 SM in previous models for a 12MP Wide Camera with f/2,2 aperture.

Although the quality has decreased in megapixels, I didn't notice much of a drop in usage, except for videos, which now no longer 60-frame recording for some reason. On the other hand, they now 10-bit HDR.

Given the specifications, let's move on to practical tests with the cameras:

Wide Camera 6e34f

The main camera of the Galaxy A56 It is excellent for its category. It can deliver a good level of detail and great colors in almost any situation, as long as you respect its specifications. Don't zoom in too much with it, because the quality starts to get bad and then you miss a telephoto lens on the device. Check out some photos:

UltraWide 476n6m

The second lens, the ultrawide, isn't bad, but it falls short of the main lens in every way. The resolution is worse and the results tend to make everything darker and blurrier. This goes against what I wrote earlier about the fact that it would have been better to improve this lens and remove the macro lens, which has no practical use in everyday life. Check it out:

Macro 604l1y

I've already said that I don't really like this lens, because on this device, it has very weak specifications that could be used to improve other technologies instead. Furthermore, it's not very commonly used, since you always need to go into the settings to activate the macro mode. Finally, it's the third generation of the A line with the same configuration of this lens, showing that either people use it a lot, or nobody uses it, but they put it here just to "have three cameras". That said, check out some photos:

We still have the issue of videos. Galaxy A56 can record up to 4K30 and also in FullHD60. The quality is good and the new thing is that it now records in 10-bit HDR, making the colors more vivid and attractive.

Front camera (Selfies) 4i173c

Although the resolution of the front lens has decreased this year, the results are excellent, especially in good light conditions. The colors are good, as are the details. In portrait mode, cropping can fail if the photo has too many elements between you and the background, but I liked it. Check it out:

As for videos, it records up to 4K on the front too, with 10-bit HDR. But I noticed a problem: unlike other models, the option to 60 FPS in the recording in Full HD went away. I don't know why, since we have a better processor, but here's a warning.

REVIEW: Galaxy A56 (Image: Tiago Rodrigues/ Showmetech)

O Galaxy A56 5G a beautiful, resistant and super fluid smartphone, a natural evolution in relation to the other two models from previous years, with emphasis on the very impressive leap in screen brightness and for 45W charging (Although Samsung only sends the traditional charger in the box). Combine that with the most powerful Exynos processor for mid-range devices and the experience is great.

It's great to see Samsung bringing Artificial Intelligence to a mid-range model like this. These are cool features, but it's worth noting that it doesn't have the Galaxy A.I. as in the top of the line. The artificial intelligence here is limited to image adjustments, scrolling to search on Google and more basic functions. In this single point, the Galaxy A56 5G stays behind the OPPO Reno13 F 5G, which brings more AI functions such as Smart Notes e Voice recording with smart transcription.

For the price it is on the day this review was posted, other options like the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion and Xiaomi Poco X7 Pro are two competitors that present a more attractive option. After all, getting close to 3 thousand reais in an intermediate, with a little more, you can invest in a Galaxy S23 or even the Galaxy S24FE, who are better at everything.

O Galaxy A56 5GBy R$2200 or less, it becomes an excellent cost-benefit option. It brings the best brand experience among Samsung's mid-range devices, second only to the line Galaxy S ou Z, which are the s. Under these conditions, we recommend the purchase.
