We interviewed Renato Citrini, from Samsung Brasil, to talk about the Galaxy S23 line (S23, 23+ and 23 ultra). The idea is to understand what has changed since last year, in of hardware and software.

In this month of February Samsung launched its new line of smartphones, o Galaxy S23, S23 + e S23Ultra, with improvements over the previous generation in camera, performance, battery and other aspects. we interviewed Renato Citrini, Senior Product Manager Mobile experience from Samsung Brazil, who explained a little more about what changed in the S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra, and also answered questions of possible doubts from s. Design 493g4d

After greetings and thanks for making Renato available with this contribution to the site, we started the interview talking about the design of the new smartphones. The entire line of Galaxy S23 features a design very similar to what we saw in the past generation, and Citrini confirmed this, stating that the “well-known and established design” of the S22 Ultra has been retained. But this isn't from to , the design of the S22 Ultra has been carried over to all three Galaxy S23 models.

We bring this design that was only from Ultra to these two models, the S23 and the S23+, with the same design language, without that contour on the camera. All this with what we call “floating cameras”: the rear is completely smooth and the camera lenses are “floating” on this smooth rear.

Renato Citrini, Senior Product Manager of Mobile Experience at Samsung Brazil, comments on the changes coming in the new smartphones

Processor 6j5h1a

The processor of this device is the Snapdragon 8 gen 2 for Galaxy, made exclusively for Samsung's new smartphones. According to Citrini, this new chip brings at least a 30% increase in overall performance and another 40% increase in Artificial Intelligence and graphics performance, when compared to the previous generation Galaxy. This processor is better than the snapdragon 8 gen 2 “pure”, because it contains more GHz of frequency.

This partnership with Qualcomm means that we have this exclusive processor. It's not just a "Snapdragon 8 gen 2", but a "snapdragon 8 gen 2 for Galaxy”, that we have a boost in frequency, bringing more performance to the device.

Renato Citrini explains a little about the exclusive processor of the S23 line that came in partnership with Qualcomm

Battery 4i148

The new entry-level and intermediate Galaxy S23 have a few more mAh of battery compared to their respective models in the S22 line — bringing a gain of 200 mAh for each, the S23 with 3.900 mAh and the S23+ with 4.700 mAh. The S23 Ultra remained with the same amount as its predecessor, 5.000 mAh. Citrini explains that, to have a battery that lasts longer, the ideal would be to manufacture physically larger batteries and this would consequently result in smartphones that are also physically larger.

What changed in the S23? Ultra variant has the same amount of milliamps as the model launched in 2022. Image: Samsung

This new processor, in addition to having a better performance, it also has a better energy efficiency. The combination of these two factors [processor and battery] that will bring this battery life, but not only that, it also has a whole Artificial Intelligence, it has a whole display management, it has a whole streaming management that we optimize and make with that in these situations you use less energy.

There was a brief jump in mAh on the S23 and S23+ models, while the S23 Ultra remains at 5.000 mAh

When it comes to smartphones Samsung many people immediately think about cameras, their powers, technologies involved and how their shots can be improved by always using the latest generation smartphone. Renato Citrini says that, just like the battery, the involvement of a better processor, in addition to better lenses and the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence, also bring a differential when making your records in photos and videos.

All of this is done by this processor, which is actually called a “chipset”, which is a set of chips. There is a part of this processor that takes care of the images — it understands how the light is arranged to adjust the lighting in the best possible way, without the having to understand photography. The idea is to take your smartphone out of your pocket and get the best result.

Portrait mode capture has also been improved.

Despite everything being very well automated, those s who have knowledge in the photographic area can also make other adjustments to achieve increasingly different results in the records. In the case of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, there is a jump in the main lens of 108 MP resolution — from the S22 Ultra — to 200 SM of resolution. This lens can offer details that, even after cropping, still bring an image clean enough to, for example, post on social networks.

In the Galaxy S23 and S23+ there are three sensors included in the set of rear cameras and in the S23 Ultra there are 4 sensors. We comment on the inclusion of zoom in 10x unique to the S23 Ultra, since we usually only see this zoom at 3x. Citrini explains that the 10x zoom can be done without optical loss with a sensor that works with this lens together.

Night Mode — or nightography — is not new in the world of smartphones, bringing a tool that improves all records made in darker environments. But in this new generation we saw the inclusion of Astrophotography, a tool for records beyond the sky.

We see many Samsung s taking pictures of the Moon and we would like to go one step further, offering a tool that can also the stars. In the camera app itself, you can track constellations from a tripod stand with an exposure of 2 to 4 minutes. Another resource is the Star Trail, capable of recording the risk of the stars in the sky, also being ideal with a for exposure of a few minutes, which can also vary between 30 and 40 minutes.

In selfie cameras there was a reduction in MP resolution in the current generation compared to the previous one, going from 40 to now with 12. As much as this may sound like a downgrade, the processor issue once again arrives to improve the results presented here. Another resource that is often used by s is the Portrait Mode. Citrini commented a little more about him, check it out:

In Portrait Mode used in the front camera we now have Super HDR, a feature that works with the brightest and least lit parts of your photo to bring balance and quality to the final result. It is automatic and already present without having to activate or deactivate it.

Still on photography improvements, now there is also Expert RAW, a second application to make your photographic records. This second app is more suitable for those s who have more technical knowledge in photography and would like to use the device in a way that is closer to the professional.

It [Expert RAW mode] gives you all the control of aperture, white balance, exposure, exposure time, you can have similar controls in Pro mode but Expert RAW brings even more possibilities. RAW is the photo format that doesn't have any processing — everything the sensor captures is stored in that file.

Videos 3x6y50

Finishing the part of photos, we also talk about the video recordings in 8K to 30 FPS which is present in all models of the S23 line. Many people question what is possible to watch in 8K, imagining it to be a somewhat limited technology, however, s of smartphones from the S23 line can already produce their own content in this quality. Even the ments for the Galaxy S23 were made with the Galaxy S23 Ultra itself.

Citrini also stated that a smartphone was placed in a ceiling fan to do some scenes! Samsung's new line of smartphones also has greater stabilization when recording videos.

There are two ways to stabilize, one is the digital way, which is recording at an opening angle only in the middle, that is, the shakes in this image are dampened by working only in the middle of the image. And the other way to stabilize the videos is to increase the angle of the mechanical stabilization, the OIS, having twice the stabilization in the S23 Ultra, allowing there to be a shake with less or no impacts.

And in videos, the new smartphones, especially the S23 Ultra, also have significant improvements

Offers 4z5g9

Until the day March 5th, 2023 Samsung is offering twice as much memory to s, that is, whoever buys a Galaxy S23 with 128 GB of internal storage, gets a model with 256 GB. In addition, the customer even takes home a wireless headset Galaxy Buds2.

Image: Samsung

Twice the memory also works for models S23+ or S23Ultra, but as their entry model is 256 GB, so whoever buys some of them in that memory takes a 518 GB. The headset that comes with the model S23 + and S23Ultra is Galaxy Buds2 Pro. Redemption of headphones must be done through the website Samsung For You, just enter the invoice data to receive the headphones at home.

And you, what did you think of the news and differences with the previous generation? Are you going to guarantee yours yet? Tell us in the comments!
