Launched in 1996 and with the last record of discontinuation in 2004, the Nintendo 64 brought joy to many people around the world. Video games — as the name suggests — ushered in the era of 64-bit games, offering a leap forward from the 32-bits of the first game. PlayStation, your rival. THE N64, just like its predecessor Super Nintendo, used game cartridges of the most diverse genres. But not all games were widely available on the market, making some of them scarce. Today we are going to show you a list containing the 15 rarest Nintendo 64 games there are, just take a look! 5h5x4v

Snowboard Kids 2 6l5j1s

Starting with Snowboard Kids 2, we have here a snow skiing game that you can play against friends or against machine opponents. Generally speaking, Snowboard Kids 2 very similar to the well-known Mario Kart, mainly because in this game you can use special weapons against your opponents, slow them down and even make them lose coins — the latter can be avoided through some maneuvers. Unlike the first game, this second version brought even more variety in every way, such as the maps, including stages on tropical islands and even haunted houses.

This game was released without much publicity involved, which led to low sales, having been published by the distributor Atlus, a company that is known for some commercial disasters. To give you an idea, a sealed version of Snowboard Kids 2 cost about US$ 1.000 — something around BRL 5.179 in direct conversion -, while a single cartridge is sold at the margin of US$ 80 — around BRL 415 in direct conversion.

Goemon's Great Adventure 645t1j

the game saga Ganbare Goemon has been very well received in Japan since the release of The Legend of the Mystical Ninja and several similar titles were released around the world. Two of these games reached the Nintendo 64 with the titles Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon e Goemon's Great Adventure. The latter was the third game in the series in which the protagonist, Goemon, tries to get back the resurrection machine that the Wise Man built, in addition to having to defeat the villain Dochuki. A sub-theme of the game is humor combined with horror, and even had some parts of the game in 2D, like on the Super Nintendo.

Goemon's Great Adventure was very well received by critics, even though it only sold 160.000 copies worldwide. The main reason for this result is that the game's performance was not as expected, as it happened in Japan — not least because sales in the country were twice as high as in other places. The game's own humor and other references were also more focused on Japanese culture, which did not bring as much appeal to American and European countries. Currently the game can be found for sale by $600 for the sealed copy and $100 for the loose copy — R$3.107 and R$518, respectively, in direct conversion.

Conker's Bad Fur Day 304kh

A Rare already had its logo displayed in several games of the Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64, which demonstrates the partnership between the companies. Popular games like Donkey Kong Country, GoldenEye 007 e Perfect Dark are some examples of this relationship. A few months before the release of the successor to the Nintendo 64, the GameCube, Rare released the game for the 64-bit console Conker's Bad Fur Day. Unlike other company titles, this game showed that the partnership of companies could always offer a different formula from the other.

A string of Conker's Bad Fur Day was in development shortly before the Microsoft buy Rare and little by little this project fell apart, which was one of the factors that discouraged the sale of the game — and of course, the fact that it was released close to the arrival of the GameCube. Others, on the other hand, blame Nintendo for not knowing how to manage the value of the game, which can currently be found for US$ 500, something around R$ 2.590.

daikatana 1m1r5h

John Romero was the brain behind several shooters like Doom, Quake e Wolfenstein 3D, but he only managed to achieve these successful titles through his first FPS: daikatana. This title was even his first game after leaving Id Software, which was made available for PC and N64. Despite the marketing campaign being heavy, critics did not evaluate the game well, pointing to dated gameplay and a complicated story to understand.

For the game to become profitable, millions of copies needed to be sold, and its performance in the market was indeed below expectations. The Nintendo 64 version was sold exclusively through the rental chain. Blockbuster, but as its sales were very low, the company tried to divide this stock so as not to be so much at a loss. As a result of all this production of these cartridges was stopped, meaning that their owners now have a collector's piece at home. Sealed versions cost US$ 400 while the unsealed ones can be seen by US$ 80 — being R$2.072 and R$415, respectively and in direct conversion.

WCW Backstage Assault 1lj3v

WCW Backstage Assault enough with a title that ended up catching on among gamers: it is recognized as the worst fighting game ever made in history. Launched in 2000 for Nintendo 64 e PlayStation, the game did not offer a wrestling ring as an arena, trying to bring a bit of reality, with fights being fought in bathrooms and locker rooms. Another point raised by the critics is that the matches only took place with 2 competitors.

Not content with these points, another factor that contributed to the drop in sales is that the World Wrestling Federation (Federação Mundial de Luta Livre) bought the rights to the game shortly after its release. Well, few people would be interested in a game that was already considered dated. And the fact that there was no wrestling ring was what took the biggest toll on the sales fiasco, making this a game that sold 200.000 copies, even taking its sequel to PlayStation 2 to the drawer. loose cartridges WCW Backstage Assault cost about US$ 250, more or less R$ 1.295.

Bomberman 64: The Second Attack! 5x1y6e

The 3D universe began to be explored with the release of Nintendo 64 and PlayStation — and of course the series Bomberman would not be left out of this. The first title to be explored was bomberman 64, released in 1997 and then, in 1999, Bomberman 64: The Second Attack! was released, but without as much success as the first game. There were changes in the character's movement and in how the bombs worked, in addition to varying between platform sections and other adventure and action elements, thus dividing the taste of the public and also the critics.

This is considered one of the rarest Nintendo 64 games, currently being found for about US$ 2.000, representing an incredible R$ 10.357 in direct conversion. Would you pay for this rare piece?

Ogre Battle 64: Person Of Lordly Caliber 6s6n

Another game that had its lifespan on the Nintendo 64 was Ogre Battle 64: Person Of Lordly Caliber. Released in Japan in 2000, the game did not quite meet sales expectations because it was close to the GameCube launch. They say that the low number of sales is due to the distributor Atlus — look at her again, huh —, which had to reduce the game's production even further, making it even scarcer in the world. A few years later a digital version of the game was made available for the Nintendo Wii. Ogre Battle 64: Person Of Lordly Caliber can be found among $ 100 and $ 800 — representing respectively R$518 and R$4.143 in direct conversion — depending on the conditions in which it is found.

Pokemon Snap (Not for Resale) 1i95d

And even the famous and profitable Pokémon series has its slips. The game Pokémon Snap 1999 changed a little the concept of rail shooter, bringing cameras instead of weapons, so you could record Pokémon as if you were on a walk in the savannah. The variety of places to be explored is noticed, since the player is taken to cold, desert, forest and many other areas, also finding the most different Pokémon on the way. The more you captured Pokémon logs in different positions, the higher your score.

This spin-off from the Pokémon series was a gateway for players to get to know the pets now in 3D, just before the launch of Pokémon Stadium. Decades later, the Switch got its own photo game, with the new pokemon snap. The game comes with the tag "(Not for Resale)", which means "No resale", in free translation, which makes it even rarer, with only a few original copies available in the world. Those who sell it usually offer it for around US$ 500, something around R$ 2.590.

Yoshi's Story: International Version 3k7065

GoldenEye 007 (Not For Resale Gray) 2u5e42

A Rare still brought other successful games to the world, such as Killer Instinct e Battletoads until mid-1997, until in 1995 the company released the game GoldenEye 007, an adaptation of the highly known spy film that was released in the same year. Unlike other titles, GoldenEye 007 was a great success, mainly for presenting a new way to play FPS, winning several awards and selling more than 8 million copies worldwide. Even today some elements of this game can be found in other recent titles.

While living up to its status on the Nintendo 64, GoldenEye 007, as was the case with the Yoshi's Story: International Version, received a special version to be displayed at points of sale. The best way to entice someone to buy a game is to offer some kind of demo, right? And these demos of GoldenEye 007 came with the tag "(Not For Resale Gray)“, being manufactured very few units and being possible to find for sale for more than US$ 1.000, or BRL 5.179 in direct conversion.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Collector's Edition) 674w5s

Another game that was wildly successful on the Nintendo 64 was definitely The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The first 3D game in the saga brought a story similar to that seen in its predecessors: saving Princess Zelda, defeating Ganon and saving Hyrule. Considered one of the first open world games, the game also brought other elements that impressed anyone at the time, such as the locked target, time travel and the possibility of switching between the young and adult version of the warrior Link.

Super Bowling 3z5p4q

The game Super Bowling became a name for two different games developed by KID: the first for Super Nintendo in 1992 and the second, which is this one, for Nintendo 64, bringing all possible improvements, such as graphics and gameplay. There were 8 different characters that players could choose from, in addition to several game modes and 3 other ways to have fun with more than one player.

Super Bowling it underperformed in 2001, a year after its release. There were several factors that led to this result and its consequent rarity, mainly because it was released near the end of the Nintendo 64. The game's developer was also little known, contributing to the low performance in sales. Their copies currently cost between $ 600 and $ 1.100, something around BRL 3.107 and BRL 5.697, respectively and depending on the condition of the cartridge.

stunt racer 64 1p2o6n

stunt racer 64 was developed by Boss Studios and released by Midway, being a racing game with cars and a whole futuristic aesthetic, where players fought among themselves to see not only who came in first place, but also to know who could do the best stunts. Drivers could do different maneuvers to get more money to buy improvements for cars, in addition to unlocking new ones. There were 5 different racing leagues and there were even extra tracks if players achieved high levels of performance.

You can find this game for purchase for around $400 at a hefty $4.000, something around BRL 2.072 and BRL 20.714, respectively and depending on the condition of the cartridge.

Rampage 2: Universal Tour (by Big Box) 266z1i

Despite having the number 2 in the title, Rampage 2: Universal Tour it is actually the third game in the series that derives from its predecessor Rampage World Tour, from 1997, being developed by Avalanche Software and published by Midway. The game tells the story of the monsters Lizzie, Ralph and George. After being captured and imprisoned, they team up to save Earth from aliens. ClayFighter 63 ⅓: The Sculptor's Cut 1s4k21

And finishing our list, we have a game with a somewhat curious title: ClayFighter 63 ⅓. It is a fighting game that was released for the N64 in 1997. This is the third title in the saga ClayFighter and brought a trend of the time that were the characters in stop motion — those that look like they were made from modeling clay — something that set it apart from other games in the same genre. Developed by Interplay Productions, ClayFighter 63 ⅓ worked as a certain parody of other famous fighting games, such as Killer Instinct e Street Fighter.

The normal version of the game is not as rare as the ClayFighter 63 ⅓: The Sculptor's Cut. This special edition was released exclusively for Blockbuster and included a large number of additional features. For this reason, the exclusive version was not found for sale, only for rent, which makes it even rarer. You can find this special game for around US$ 900 — something around BRL 4.660 in direct conversion —, but as most of them were used as rentals, it is difficult to find a sealed version — but nothing impossible. A sealed unit can be sold for US$ 14.000, an amount approaching R$ 72.497. Is this investment worth it?

And you, what do you think of these games? Have you ever encountered any of these cartridges in person? Tell us in the comments!
