Odyssey g40 review

REVIEW: Odyssey G40 is perfect gaming monitor for competitive modes 4k2x55

Some will think it's a hack, but it's just the image optimization provided by the Odyssey G40!

Newly arrived in the Brazilian market, the gamer monitor Odyssey g40, Samsung, is available in 25 and 27 inch versions. In this case, it is not a 4K Ultra HD or curved screen that delights us, as is the case with the Odyssey Neo G8 and the Odyssey Neo G7, but rather a IPS , the 240 Hz rate and of course, the 178º viewing angle, capable of offering competitive advantages in some games. l1n4u

Even being a rather compact option among gamers monitors, both versions of Odyssey g40 occupy an imposing space, whatever the environment. The differences between the models are in the weight, dimension and size of the ; all other features are the same. Robustness is found in all the device's constructive elements, from the flat screen with a back full of lines in a pattern that guarantees texture and embellishment in the center in blue, to the stem and base that complement the look.

The adornment is a kind of optional ornament that comes in the package to be fitted to the monitor before attaching to the pole. With it, the base insert is hidden, in addition to being a beautiful detail on the back of the machine. Contrary to its strong appearance, the device is not heavy: 3,6 kg when handling it without the base. Placed on the pedestal, it totals 5,3 kg. This contributes to the quick and easy preparation and allocation.

The edges are almost imperceptible when the device is observed from the front, giving prominence to the screen, which takes advantage of almost 100% of the surface. The exception is the lower edge, which is a little more robust. In it are two spaces that appear to be speakers or even refrigerators, but are only part of the monitor's visual construction. As usual, the Samsung logo is centered there and with a brushed finish.

The height of the device draws attention, promoted by the long stem that leaves the screen about a palm and a half away from the base. Inside the rod, there is an internal iron that works as a counterweight, eliminating the fear of falling. All these elements make it impossible for the Odyssey G40 to go unnoticed!

A Full HD maximum resolution is competent but fails to meet part of the target audience, especially those players who have a super powerful PC, capable of taking all settings to maximum, along with the ray tracing  and other resources.

However, the main focus of the Odyssey G40 is not the resolution, but the fluidity of the image. With an insanely fast refresh rate of 240Hz e 1 millisecond response time, this gaming monitor immediately redeems itself by limiting the resolution quality. Combined, these features ensure minimal lag when playing games.

Add to that the function ultra wide game view, which adjusts the screen so that playback is at a 21:9 aspect ratio. It provides an even greater expansion of the player's field of vision. On the physical side, the ergonomic stand helps the to make adjustments such as tilting or rotating the screen.

The set of these features is ideal for those who play in competitive modes - such as CS:GO, Overwatch, Call of Duty, among others, as the image performance reaches the level of perfection in synchronization and response, without the risk of crashes or image tears. During tests, I'm not a big fan of games like this, I asked some friends to play while I watched. Incredible image! For console games, with me in charge of the Xbox Series X, you don't even need to prolong: Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Batman: Arkham Knight and other titles were a feast for the eyes.

There is also the eye saver mode that optimizes visual comfort by reducing blue light emissions on this screen that has 400nits maximum brightness and 1.000:1 contrast ratio.

The fact that it is compatible with AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-SYNC makes it even more attractive to Gamers, because it is the technologies that prevent the screen tearing (screen tearing) occurs. How do they do it? Decreasing the frequency difference between video card and monitor, that is, making both operate at the same pace — a function that serves the most demanding gamers, even if, in the end, the resolution still distances them.

As nothing is perfect, it is necessary to talk about the biggest downside of the Odyssey 40: the lack of sound output. Well, there are s who even prefer devices in this category not to have speakers, however, I believe that this is not the majority of consumers looking for a gaming monitor. Even more so if there are comparisons with other products available on the market. with a good headset ou headphone, the experience remains ideal.

Even before connecting the console or PC, we have already come across a super positive point, which is the vertical entry doors, causing the cables to be aligned downwards. This is nice because in this position, the strands take less damage. You may have to lift the monitor to get a better view when installing, but that's good for the cables, believe me.

Are two HDMI 2.0 inputs available, in addition to a DisplayPort 1.2 and a 3,5mm headphone jack. The DC19V port receives the power cord. When turning on the monitor, the feature Auto Source Switch+ automatically identifies which was the last source connected to it, playing it back.

We consider that the Odyssey G40 is well equipped to host both PC and console games. Finally, there is the presence of a USB port, which can be used to charge a smartphone or controller, for example.

If the subject is competence in general and ergonomics, the monitor samsung odyssey g40 can already be considered one of the best options among gamers monitors available in Brazil. Even in an environment lit by natural daylight, it was possible to play without shading from different angles, and also without the need to close the curtains.

It is worth noting that this will be a great buy for gamers, on of the highly interesting use for games. After all, having an expanded field of vision is a great competitive advantage. For other purposes, such as watching movies and series, for example, it can be frustrating due to the lack of speakers. Therefore, it is not a multipurpose product.

That's it, if you like to spend hours playing online with friends in competitive modes, this is the monitor you need!

The version tested was the 25-inch, being the most recommended because of the value, which has dropped a little since its arrival in the Brazilian market. The Odyssey G40 25” is available on Magazine Luiza for R$2.321,10. The 27-inch version, on the other hand, costs R$2.699 at Giraffe.
