New button, Artificial Intelligence features, iOS 18, screen with oleophobic coating, the iPhone 16 brought improvements, yes! Come see all the news

The iPhone 16 has arrived and, as always, the Apple bet on some Features perhaps bold enough to justify its place at the top. This time, the highlight is the new physical button dedicated to the camera, a simple addition that promises to transform the way we capture photos and videos — something essential in a world where every moment is “Instagrammable”. Another move is the Apple Intelligence, which brings artificial intelligence directly to almost the entire device, making everyday tasks more fluid and even a little futuristic. 225x

And if photography is your thing, get ready for the so-called 48 MP “Fusion camera”, which not only impresses in of numbers, but also in what it delivers.

Below I will tell you about my experience using it. iPhone 16.

In addition to the standard black and white, you can buy the iPhone 16 in pink, green and blue. Image: Disclosure/Apple

“Don’t change a winning team,” as the saying goes. The iPhone 16 maintains the sleek, familiar design of previous models, with a change in the rear camera module, now in a vertical position, similar to the old iPhone X/XS. This change was made to the capture of Spatial Photos and Videos, optimized for use with the apple vision pro (which recently had its production paused).

Available in 5 vibrant colors like Ultramarine and Pink, the device has a finish, but does not bring radical innovations compared to the iPhone 15.

The first detail that catches your eye – or rather, almost disappears from your eyes – is the reduction of the bezels. With even thinner margins, the iPhone 16 screen approaches an “edge-to-edge” look already present in other devices from other manufacturers. This change is not just aesthetic; anyone who has tested devices with thinner bezels knows that the feeling of immersion is really greater. Compared to the iPhone 15 (and we have iPhone 15 Pro review), which already boasted reduced edges, the iPhone 16 further refines this fine line between body and display, which we can agree is quite a feat, considering the physical limitations of the materials and components.

On the right side there is another new feature: the quick access button to the camera which allows you to perform some actions on it, we will talk more about it below in the camera topic.

But then, it’s a design “game changer“? Absolutely not. But it’s the kind of upgrade that makes much older models look really old, even though they still function like new. After all, design isn’t just about what you see—it’s also about what you feel when you hold it. And in that, the iPhone 16 nails it. Oh, and it’s a few millimeters thinner, which may not seem like much on the spec sheet, but in your hand, it’s a noticeable difference.

It was a great step forward for Apple to finally adopt OLED screens for iPhones. True blacks are present here. Photo: César Marcos/Showmtech

The 6,1-inch Super Retina XDR display continues to offer excellent quality, with vibrant, crisp colors. Peak brightness reaches 2.000 nits, which makes outdoor use more comfortable. However, the iPhone 16 still doesn't have a 120Hz refresh rate (which the Apple calls ProMotion) nor with the always-on screen function, both features limited to the Pro models, something that may disappoint some s.

Even in bright environments, the OLED screen called Super Retina XDR performs very well! Photo: César Marcos/Showmtech

With a resolution of 2556 x 1179 pixels at 460 ppi, one of its strong points is color reproduction. for HDR10 and Dolby Vision continues to be impressive, delivering a rich and faithful palette. It's the kind of screen that makes you want to edit photos on your phone or watch high-definition content directly from YouTube.

However, the refresh rate is way below what a device in this price range should have. While the Pro models continue to enjoy ProMotion with its smooth 120Hz, the standard iPhone 16 is still stuck at 60Hz. This means that, for those who have already gotten used to swiping through fluid menus, going back to 60Hz may seem… old-fashioned. It's a choice that keeps costs (in theory) and battery life under control, but it's impossible to ignore that even mid-range models from competitors already offer higher rates.

Finally, it's worth mentioning the oleophobic coating. I did feel that the screen attracts fewer fingerprints. That's a positive point.

REVIEW: iPhone 16, native in the era of Artificial Intelligence

I'll start by saying: I I LOVED IT SO MUCH o Photo Styles. They work by adjusting specific colors in certain parts of your photos to create the exact look you want. The result is very Cool! I think it's one of the coolest new features in the line and I hope people use it a lot so that other manufacturers adopt the feature too.

A Apple has always liked to sell the iPhone as “the only photography equipment you’ll ever need.” With the iPhone 16, it not only reinforces this narrative, but also puts the device ahead of many dedicated cameras on the market. The changes aren’t just numbers on the spec sheet, but improvements that really make a difference – both for professionals and for those who just want to post a flawless story.

Starting with the obvious: the main sensor now has 48 megapixels, a feature that appeared on previous Pro models and is finally coming down to the entire lineup. But before you think “more megapixels, more marketing,” the Apple know how to use these numbers to your advantage. Thanks to technology pixel binning, it combines four pixels into one to capture more light, resulting in incredibly detailed photos, even in low-light environments. It's nothing new, it's something we've already seen happening in several devices from several manufacturers.

Dedicated button 2w38d

For photo lovers, great news: there is now a dedicated camera button. Photo: César Marcos/Showmtech

Designed to facilitate quick access to the camera, it works very intuitively. Located on the right side, the button allows for different interactions, such as a quick tap to activate the camera and a double tap to access settings, such as zoom. In addition, it responds to pressure and gestures, such as swiping to adjust the zoom, offering a more tactile and precise experience when taking photos.

Look, it's very useful, but the execution can be questionable. Pressing the button to zoom in makes the video shake when you press the button. The zoom itself looks beautiful, very smooth and super professional, but the shaking caused by pressing the button makes the final result... flawed.

This is the menu where you choose and edit the Photographic Styles. This is the Municipal Theater of São Paulo. Photo: César Marcos/Showmetech

Apple decided to give the main camera a name: Fusion. It's a 48MP sensor with a 26mm lens, θ/1.6 aperture, sensor-shift optical image stabilization, 100% Focus Pixels, and for ultra-high-resolution photos (24MP and 48MP). It also acts as a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x zoom, ideal for portraits of people. There's 2x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out; and 4x optical zoom range.

I moved to São Paulo recently and have been loving exploring the city. Here's a tip: São Paulo City Hall Tourism Department offers guided tours through some regions of the city and I enjoyed this tour New Center to take some photos with the iPhone 16. See the records below.

I started at the Municipal Theater, and look how Photographic Effects radically changes the feeling we have when seeing “the same photo” without having to spend hours trying to edit the photos:

The images are very rich in detail and information, and the colors are reproduced in a very vibrant way. In the photo below, we can clearly see the richness of detail in the Gothic architecture of the building behind the trees, as well as the eclectic architecture of the Municipal Theater of São Paulo. Even with several elements that clash, the photo ends up looking beautiful somehow.

REVIEW: iPhone 16, native in the era of Artificial Intelligence

The photo below has become one of my favorites not only because of the framing, perspective and composition, but also because of the colors recorded by the iPhone 16's main sensor using Photographic Styles:

Mário de Andrade Library. Photo: César Marcos/Showmetech

Indoors the camera also performs very well, without grain or jaggedness and with very vibrant colors:

Ultrawide Camera 25243c

The Ultra Wide lens has also been refined to capture more detail at the edges of photos, reducing distortion. This is particularly useful for landscape or architectural photography, where every line and detail counts. And of course, it remains the most fun lens for exploring creative angles.

It uses a 12 MP sensor, 13 mm lens, ƒ/2.2 aperture and 120° viewing angle. See some records below:

REVIEW: iPhone 16, native in the era of Artificial Intelligence

Even at night it takes great pictures. Notice how the tree is black and without that jagged edge that we had in night photos with older cell phones that couldn't balance the light areas of the photo with the dark areas:

REVIEW: iPhone 16, native in the era of Artificial Intelligence

Maximum zoom of 10x 37h42

This is where things don't work out so well — and on any phone! Using the maximum zoom on any device has always resulted in bad images, and now with artificial intelligence trying to alleviate the lack of detail and quality, the images look a bit... strange. I notice better results on Samsung devices, but on the iPhone it's something that needs improvement.

Next to the Central Theater is the Sampaio Moreira Building, which was the first building with a rooftop and more than 10 floors in downtown São Paulo. See this photo at maximum zoom of 10x:

In situations where there is not a great wealth of detail, the result is quite satisfactory, with less blur and without that feeling of a photo “improved” by artificial intelligence, see below:

Photos at night 6ly3c

Super positive results. Below is an example where there is a point of direct light and a completely dark region, and even so there is not much noise or area with overexposed light, the image was smooth and very precise:

In scenarios with less lighting the result remains very good:

Can we say that nowadays the main camera on a cell phone is the front camera? Maybe, right? That's right. Called the TrueDepth Camera, it has 12 MP, ƒ/1.9 aperture and takes great pictures day and night, and of course, in environments with a lot of light the results are much more satisfactory.

Oh, and great news, Photographic Styles can be used on the front camera too:

Have I mentioned that I loved the iPhone 16 Photographic Styles? Well, haha, I used it almost all the time. Photo: César Marcos/Showmetech

Indoor photos come out really well too. On the same day I went to BGS (Brazil Game Show) and met with the Power Rangers, my favorite cartoon as a child.

REVIEW: iPhone 16, native in the era of Artificial Intelligence

Portrait mode, already impressive on the iPhone 15, has been enhanced with more control over focus and bokeh. The magic happens in real time: you can adjust the focus point after the photo is taken, making the feature even more powerful for photographers — or just for those who want to show off a new haircut on Instagram. I have curly hair and no phone has ever been able to blur it so well, so I tested it with a cap haha!

Here are some more technical specifications of the front camera:

  • 4K Dolby Vision video recording at 24 fps, 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps
  • 1080p Dolby Vision video recording at 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps
  • Cinema Mode up to 4K Dolby Vision at 30 fps
  • 1080p slow motion video at 120 fps
  • Time-lapse video with stabilization
  • Time-lapse with Night mode
  • Video QuickTake (up to 4K at 60 fps in Dolby Vision)
  • Cinematic video stabilization (4K, 1080p and 720p)
  • Stereo Recording and Spatial Audio
  • Wind noise reduction

processor and hardware 294vi

We now have 8 GB of RAM in the basic model, which helps a lot with AI tasks. Photo: César Marcos/Showmetech

The iPhone 16 comes equipped with the new processor A18, a 3-nanometer chip that brings significant improvements in performance, especially in games, multitasking, but especially for artificial intelligence. RAM management has also been improved to future features of the Apple Intelligence. Speaking of RAM, there are now 8 GB in the basic models and 12 GB in the Pro models. However, the device can get hot during intensive use, especially when running games or using the camera in places with direct sunlight (this is quite common in any device, by the way).

An important feature of the A18 is its preparation to handle artificial intelligence tasks, especially with the integration of Apple Intelligence. However, it is worth mentioning that, so far, this feature is not available in Brazil, which limits the full use of the chip's capabilities. Going more into the technical part, there are 6 cores, 2 of which are performance (4.04 GHz) and 4 of which are performance (2.20 GHz). The GPU has 5 cores and the NPU has 16 cores.

It is possible to use up to two e-SIMs and it is worth ing that the iPhone 16 does not have a memory card slot and you can buy it with 128, 256 or 512GB of storage.

It is worth ing that it is compatible with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS and BeiDou.

It is now possible to customize the system more than ever before. Image: Disclosure/Apple

A Apple has always stood out for the excellent work done on the devices' systems and the rule remains the same here. After testing the company's devices for years, it's even boring to always be saying the same thing, but that's it: opening and closing applications is always fast and fluid.

O iOS 18 introduces small improvements, such as the Math Notes, but the main innovation will be the Apple Intelligence, a set of artificial intelligence features that will enhance the experience with Siri and other apps. However, these features will not be fully available until early 2025, which leaves the Apple a little behind competitors like Google and Samsung.

Apple Intelligence 314h38

The feature is Apple's biggest asset this year and is what sets the new iPhone apart from the rest. Image: Disclosure/Apple

This year all models are compatible with the AI features of Apple and that is by far the biggest new feature of the new iPhone 16. The company restricted AI capabilities to the iPhone 15 Pro line under the justification that only they had the hardware resources necessary to perform the activities. Unlike Samsung that released the Galaxy A.I. (name of artificial intelligence features) of the S24 line for devices launched in the last 3 years.

The target of much criticism when the device was launched, as it was the main differentiator and was not available to the general public, the feature has now arrived — but not in Portuguese yet, unfortunately.

But, showmetech, after all what is the Apple Intelligence? It's basically the personal intelligence system of the Apple built into iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, which combines generative AI models with a 's personal context to deliver advanced, personalized functionality.

Among the main features, we can highlight:

  • Siri Improvements: include more efficient request processing, new look, more natural voice and the ability to type commands, making interaction more fluid and intuitive;
  • Writing tools: will allow you to rewrite, review and summarize texts in various applications, such as Mail, Messages, Notes, as well as third-party apps (yay!);
  • Cleaning in Photos: makes it easier to remove unwanted elements in images;
  • Creating Memory Videos: automatically generates personalized videos from selected photos and videos, adding music and effects to create engaging narratives;
  • Natural language search in Photos: allows you to search for images and videos using natural language descriptions, making file location more intuitive;
  • Notification summaries: groups and summarizes notifications, highlighting the most relevant ones and reducing distractions (yes!);
  • Focus and reduce interruptions: automatically adjusts notifications and alerts based on context, prioritizing what is most important at any given moment;
  • Muting and intelligent analysis in focus: identifies and silences less relevant notifications during periods of concentration, allowing for greater productivity;
  • Priority messages in Mail: Highlights urgent emails, such as invitations or travel information, with AI-generated summaries for easy reading;
  • Smart Reply in Mail and Messages: Suggests contextual and personalized responses to emails and messages, speeding up communication.

Battery 4i148

REVIEW: iPhone 16, native in the era of Artificial Intelligence

With a 3.561mAh battery, the iPhone 16 offers excellent battery life, capable of lasting a full day of regular use. However, charging time is still a weak point, taking up to two hours to fully charge, even with a 45W fast charger. It is possible to charge wirelessly at 25W via MagSafe or 15W via Qi2, and there is reverse wired charging at up to 4.5W.

Thanks to the efficiency of the A18, iPhone 16 features more efficient power management, contributing to satisfactory battery life. s can expect consistent performance throughout the day, even with heavy use of apps and multimedia features.

Yes, the battery lasts a full day of moderate use and you will reach the end of the day with around 18% after using social networks, taking photos and videos, watching videos on YouTube and playing some games, all with brightness on automatic, GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on.

Price 4k3v1d

The iPhone 16 follows the tradition of Apple of high prices — especially here in Brazil — remaining in the range of devices . For many, the price may be considered high, especially when compared to competitors that offer similar features at much more affordable prices.

On the date of publication of this text, the 16 GB iPhone 128 can be found in the range of Galaxy s24 ultra, for example. That's a lot of money for a phone with a 60Hz screen.

Conclusion a5r1x

The device is excellent in every way, but the price may be a deterrent. Photo: César Marcos/Showmtech

The iPhone 16 doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it tweaks what was already good and adds a healthy dose of innovation, without going overboard. More than an upgrade, it's a reminder that smartphones can still surprise. Is it worth it? Look, in its price range you can buy previous-generation iPhones that have an extra camera and other features from the Pro line, like the 120Hz screen, but they're not ready for the full power of Apple Intelligence. It's the kind of thing you have to weigh up.

  1. The iPhone 16 impresses with its AI-powered features and iOS 18 improvements, but many may find its high price to be a drawback, especially in Brazil. Despite this, the device stands out for its improved battery management and efficient performance. For those who need help unlocking their device, **TunesKit iPhone Unlocker** can be a reliable solution, especially if you’re upgrading from older iPhones or facing code issues. Overall, the iPhone 16 combines innovation with familiar Apple quality, but it may not be the best value for everyone.
