After playing the character Mario in a somewhat questionable dubbing in 2023, actor Chris Pratt has now embarked on the adventure of the most famous cat in the world. Responsible for taking care of Garfield, Jon Arbuckle is one of the most punished guardians there is, precisely because he often practically submits to his pet's wishes and antics. Handpicked to voice the character, Nicholas Hoult (Renfield - Giving Blood for the Boss, 2023) embodies the character who shows the most concern for Garfield throughout the plot.

Perhaps the most important artist within the cast of Garlfield – Away from Home, it can be said that Samuel L. Jackson is responsible for the piece that makes the film happen. Lending his voice to Victor, who we discover is the father of the orange kitten, the actor arrives with his famous irreverence, elevating the power of his character when he is on the scene.

REVIEW: Garfield Fora de Casa does the basics in a forgettable film

Garfield – Away from Home It's nothing you haven't already seen. The drama of taking the loose and relaxed protagonist out of his comfort zone to experience what the “real” world is like is something already used in a series of productions released to date.

So, if you go to the cinema looking for something revolutionary about the orange kitty, the most you can find is a new story about the character created by Jim Davis, which presents, yes, a new plot, but in an already well-known formula inside Hollywood.

The highlight of the work, however, is doing the basics well. As a children's character, the film clearly seeks children's attention all the time, with joke after joke and a lot of excitement on screen, and it works. In its mission to keep viewers connected to what is happening, the feature film does not fail.

Choosing the type of 3D animation enhances this aspect, making the events more interesting for kids who have fun while watching. A perfect film to take your child to, for example.

But anyone who believes that Mark Dindal's work does not captivate an adult audience at any time is mistaken. There are situations in which the emotional side of the plot manages to capture the attention of older viewers, precisely when it appeals to the sentimental part of the story.

Even though it's nothing groundbreaking, the paternal story of Garfield – Away from Home it works and is the most interesting point in the entire script written by David Reynolds (The Emperor's New Groove, 2005), Paul A. Kaplan (Middle age crisis, 2016) and Mark Torgore (Middle age crisis.

For the new Sony Pictures film, 3D animation was chosen. If the intention was solely and exclusively to entertain the children present in cinemas, the job was well done. It's a type of visual development that, despite being a little saturated after the last decade of Disney/Pixar animations, continues to work with children.

The character art is well done, bringing the feeling that the animals in the plot were really abandoned or went through various difficulties throughout their lives, but nothing that adds much or delights the eyes of those watching.

It's beautiful, pleasant and that's it. This does not happen with the setting of the scenarios, which, in some cases, do not seem to speak to the characters. It's a little strange, but when you evaluate everything together, it works as intended.

Another point that needs to be considered is the soundtrack. With a very generic melody and often unnecessary situations, the sound work here clashes with the film at certain times, giving the wrong impression about what the scene should really be about. It's not something that really harms the feature film, but it certainly hinders the experience.

Conclusion a5r1x

Disclosure/Sony Pictures

Garfield – Away from Home is the biggest film ever made about the most famous cat in the world. This can be said only in relation to the running time of the feature film directed by Mark Dinal. Sony's new project came with the ambition of giving a makeover to the orange being that has accompanied thousands of people since childhood, but what it really achieved was just presenting a different story.

It's interesting to learn about the origins of lasagna's biggest fan, but it's definitely not a film that will be ed by many over the years. The experience of taking children to the cinema to enjoy a fun adventure is worth it. However, don't expect to be surprised by a work that has little in the way of innovation.
