Although unexpected, the series of Penguin was launched. Created by showrunner Lauren LeFranc (Impulse, Agents of Shield, Chuck), the DC villain's solo series starts off in an interesting way and without relying on Batman. Although it is connected to the 2022 film – one week after the final events – the series did not introduce any characters closer to Batman. The focus here is Ozwald Cobblebot, Penguin. 5br19

Let's get to the details of the plot.
The Falcones and Gotham 352x6d

The series focuses on how Ozwald “Oz” Cobblebot rises to the top of Gotham's mafia, taking advantage of Carmine Falcon's death. This is heightened by the work of the series' production team, who are showing Gotham's dirtiest side in an exquisite way.
Oz's first step is to face alberto falcone, Carmine's son, who, in theory, would succeed his father's leadership. The problem is that Falcone proves unfit for the role, as he is nothing more than a spoiled adult. His lack of commitment to the family business culminates in him handing over plans to Oz, who ends up killing him in a disagreement, giving rise to the protagonist's most ambitious plans towards the top of the Gotham mafia.
From there, Oz tries to get rid of Alberto's body, but comes across some teenagers trying to steal his vehicle, which leads him to take drastic measures, but also introduces him to Victor Aguilar (Rhenzy Feliz), the other protagonist. At first, it is clear that Aguilar is inexperienced, and is just a subterfuge for Oz to get rid of Alberto's corpse. However, as the plot develops, the character becomes a key player in the future Penguin's big plans.

Our presentation to the Falcone ends up taking us to Sofia (Cristin Milioti), sister of Alberto. The character has a dark past, having spent some time in Arkham Asylum, which makes her considered insane by many. Sofia raises the tension of the series to new heights.
When he realizes that his former boss's death was not so advantageous, putting the entire criminal operation he works for at risk, Oz begins his plans with Vic. Soon, great conflicts between him and Sofia begin - she who is searching for the whereabouts of her brother, Alberto.
In this snowball, the series still leaves room for Salvatore Maroni, another important character in Gotham mythology, which ends up revealing a bit of Oz's chaotic potential. The first episode presents several possibilities and directions for the plot, which can be well used.
Setting 6j3e3r

The Gotham setting, previously presented in The Batman, is deepened in Penguin. It also refers to the aesthetics presented in the game. Batman: Arkham Knight, where Gotham is presented as a dirty, debauched and dangerous place, and yet it is a populous metropolis, with many buildings, neon signs, and a very high crime rate.
These concepts go beyond the city. The characterization, costumes and makeup of the characters are visually incredible, as they manage to create a great visual discrepancy between those who live in the central region of the city and those who live in the Falcone Mansion, for example, without the need to demonstrate this in the text of the series. This differentiation seems fantastical and yet realistic, which is the perfect combination of elements for the live-action Gotham universe.
Characters and performances p3u5i

In the first episode, the series already shows what Oz Cobb is capable. We saw a little of his fears, ambitions, as well as his intelligence and strategic ability. All of this was heightened by the impressive makeup and characterization work done on Colin Farrell, who is unrecognizable. Farrell is able to express very well what Oz feels, especially his pain and sacrifice in moving around due to his atrophied foot. His ambition is great, but his fatigue is visible in his gaze and behavior; the few moments of relaxation, usually occurring with Vic.
Speaking of Vic, he's a pleasant surprise in this series. The character works, since in Gotham, it makes sense for a young man with no future to be stealing from a mobster, without even knowing the reason for doing so. The boy manages to catch Oz's attention and is quite developed in this episode. He starts out as a scared kid and gains experience as he puts Oz's plans into action.

Sofia Falcone (Christin Milioti) puts Oz against the wall in this episode and shows her most unbalanced side. She was once a patient in Arkham and already stands out as a very interesting character. She uses a false innocence to obtain information, which creates an aura of uncertainty during the episode. Sofia knows how to create moments of distress and her actions will be decisive for the future of the Falcones – we can only wait for the next episodes.

We also have Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, another important figure in Gotham's criminal underworld. Maroni is imprisoned and is used to advance Oz's plans. The actor didn't have much screen time, but given the importance of the character, it is expected that he will be more present as the season progresses.
Conclusion a5r1x

the first episode of Penguin, called the "After Hours", is a great pilot. The choice not to get caught up in the Batman is spot on, allowing for better development of the character Oz and Gotham's criminal underworld. References to Batman are expected, but nothing that should change the focus of the series.
If the next episodes follow this path, focusing on Oz and his rise to power, the series will already have been worth it – even more so if, in the end, it resembles what we saw in the games in the series. Arkham.
I hope the next episodes follow this path, focusing on Oz and how he will take Gotham for him in the world of crime. If at the end of the series he looks like what we see in the Arkham games, it will have been worth it.
