In 2023, the Samsung launched not only its flagships of the line S23, but also two intermediaries: the Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy M54 5G. Both already have full reviews and tips here on the site and I suggest you check them out to learn more about each one of them. However, having the opportunity to test both, I came to the conclusion that the models are very similar, and their differences can go unnoticed, so how do you know which model to choose? 4u1i2y
I then bring a comparison between the models, divided by categories — as in the reviews of the devices — going through natural, fabric, battery, audio, cameras and so on. The main objective will be to show their specs side by side and see where the differences stand out and what is more worthwhile in each one. Let's go!
Design 493g4d

The design of the two devices are good, but there is a clear difference in the proposition here. O Galaxy A54 5G bears many similarities to the S23, thus being an intermediate smartphone with aspects. already the Galaxy M54 5G follows a simpler look and plastic rear, although very beautiful too. When we talk about colors, the first has the options green lime, black, violet e herd. The M54 already has the azul and talk, full of effects when against the light. It is worth ing that one of the characteristics of the Galaxy M line is to have a simpler appearance – in addition to being sold only in online channels.
Now putting my experiences on each one, I particularly found the grip of the A54 better because I have a smaller hand. Also, because he's chubby, it doesn't give the impression that he can fall out of your hand at any moment. With that, consider your hand size here.
Both have the volume and unlock buttons on the right side of the device. The main difference here is that the Galaxy M54 has the biometry sensor on the button and the Galaxy A54 no — his is under the display. Otherwise, everything is the same, with the USB-C port at the bottom and no P2 connection for headphones. In addition, they have a hybrid drawer, allowing either two SIMs (operator chip), or a SIM and a Micro SD card.

To complete, the Galaxy A54 it has IP67 protection against water and dust (up to 1 meter deep for up to 30 minutes). Unfortunately, the M54 does not have protection, which is a very important difference between the two models. About sizes and weights, they look like this:
Galaxy A54 | Galaxy M54 | |
High jump | 158.2 mm | 164.9 mm |
Largura | 76.7 mm | 77.3 mm |
Thickness | 8.2 mm | 8.4 mm |
Weight | 202 g | 199 g |
These differences in size make the M54 larger and thinner, yet lighter, creating that fear I mentioned earlier when holding it. In short, the Galaxy A54 has more protection and more advanced technologies for it.
Of course, you can — and should — put a case on them and the drop protection will be the same, but you can't say the same about IP67. To close this design issue, the items in the box for both are the smartphone, a brief manual, an accessory to eject the chip and a 15W charger with a USB-C to USB-A cable.
Fabric 5p3y6b

O Galaxy A54 comes equipped with a screen Super AMOLED, while the Galaxy M54 have a screen Super AMOLED Plus. In theory this difference should make the M54's screen better, but that doesn't happen because they have some peculiar differences between them.
If you are one of those who like to use the smartphone with the brightness at maximum, the Galaxy A54 reaches up to 1000 nits at its peak, while the M54 is halfway there, with 500. Make no mistake, the M line smartphone is far from having a bad brightness, but it will suffer when it is under the sun, for example.
Despite the differences in screen size (6,7 inches on the M54 and 6,4 on the A54), both have Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2400 px and 1080 x 2340 px, respectively) and a frame rate of 120Hz. The difference here is due to the Galaxy A54 that comes with HDR10+ for media playback.
Also, the frame rate system is different as well. On the A54, it is adaptable, being able to stay between 60 and 120Hz depending on the content, while on the M54 we only have the option to lock the device at 60 or 120Hz, which can cause an unnecessary drain on the battery.
Also, the biometric unlocking of the Galaxy A54 is under the screen, unlike the Galaxy M54, which is on the power button, on its side. This aspect is completely personal and will depend a lot on what you prefer in your day to day use.
With this, it can be concluded that the screen of the Galaxy A54 guarantees a more experience, so it wins in that regard. And oh, in case you were wondering, they're both protected by technology. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and in the case of the A54, on its rear as well.
Battery 4i148

O Galaxy A54 It has a 5000mah battery and the Galaxy M54, with a 6000mah. This difference in sizes is justified by the size of the screen and also by the M54's proposal to be a device to withstand more stress even in everyday life.
The point is that on both devices, I had incredible results in the apps, spending only about 5% per hour on streams like Netflix, Disney + and also in the YouTube. O Galaxy M54, of course it holds a little longer, but without such a sudden difference here.
On charging they share the same 15W charger in the box and if we compare the charging experience of both with that charger, the Galaxy A54 comes out ahead for having a smaller battery capacity, with about 2 hours for a full charge.
Already Galaxy M54 it takes about 3 hours to have a full charge on that same charger, making it important to have a 25W charger in this case, as both this charging speed.
Performance 1t5h3m
This is the tie point for both devices, after all they have the same chipset, the same amount of RAM and the same storage options. The chosen one of the time was the Exynos 1380 Samsung's own 5nm technology.
This processor is an intermediary that will guarantee a great experience in OneUI, in the most used apps on social networks, in streaming and it won't crash when taking photos and videos. In addition, it also does well in games, with good graphics, even if it does not their maximum quality.
To help with the performance of both, they have 8GB of RAM and options of 128GB or 256GB of storage, in addition to allowing the feature RAMPlus up to 8GB. As I said, at this point, we have a tie and there are no arguments against that.
interface and system 1s22
If there's another element where you won't need to worry about either device, it's the system and interface, as both share the same things in everything. They already come with Android 13 e OneUI 5.1, in addition to having the guarantee of four updates do Android and 5 years of security updates, that is, guarantee of longevity in both.
The OneUi interface keeps getting better and more functional, now even more improved for one-handed use and allowing you to use gestures or buttons for navigation. However, if you have a small hand, it may be more difficult to move the Galaxy M54 5G, favoring the not-so-distant sibling Galaxy A54 5G and vice versa.
Frontal camera 1s1d6y
On the front camera, both smartphones have only a 32MP lens and a wide-angle f / 2,2 aperture. In practice, it will be good at night shots and great in better light conditions. It can cause some problems in portrait mode when cutting hair, for example, but for most people, this won't be a big problem.
In addition, if you are looking for a smartphone to venture into the life of an influencer or content creator, this camera can record up to 4K30FPS. If the target is 4K60, then you can get those two devices out of the way. Check out some images of both devices:

Back camera 6m6m6r
Both Galaxy A54 as much as Galaxy M54 have 3 rear lenses, following the standard Wide, UltraWide e Macro. What changes are the specifications of each one of them, which looks like this:
- Galaxy A54 — Rear: 50 MP main + 12 MP ultrawide + 5 MP macro
- Galaxy M54 — Rear: 108 MP main + 8 MP ultrawide + 2 MP macro
As you can see, the A54 has a main camera with less megapixels and makes up for it with better quality in the other lenses. The M54, on the other hand, does the opposite, with a 108MP main lens, but with more modest secondary ones.
In practice, both deliver excellent photos, even at night. However, it seems that the Galaxy A54 it has a better optimized software and manages to have a little more detail. In addition, its secondary lenses achieve more interesting results.
About the Galaxy A54 doing better in photos, even with 50MP it uses a sensor Sony IMX 766, with 1/1.56″ size and 1 μm pixelsagainst a sensor Samsung ISOCELL HM6, with 1/1.67″ size and 0,64 μm pixels. The A54's Sony sensor has more pixels and ensures better light capture, which explains the better photos.
Finally, we have an important difference in video recording, as the A54 manages to reach a glorious 4K60FPS on the rear camera. Check out some images from the rear cameras of each:

With this, we conclude that the cameras are an important difference between the two models, especially if you are interested in recording in 4K60FPS, even if it is only on the rear camera.
Audio 1q5573
O Galaxy A54 5G it has two high-quality stereo speakers in its sound set and if you enjoy listening to music and especially playing games on your smartphone, you know that this makes a big difference. So when we see the Galaxy M54 5G with only one speaker, at the bottom of the device, we have an important difference between the two and guaranteeing an advantage to the A-line device.
Despite the physical difference, both have the technology Dolby Atmos and all software functions of the Samsung, such as configuring the sound according to your headphones, for example. Of course, the technology does best in the Galaxy A54's stereo audio, and watching a movie or playing games on it is much more enjoyable because of it.
Now if your focus is to use only headphones or even a bluetooth speaker, they have a Bluetooth super updated and won't let you down and the stereo audio won't make a difference. But yes, we have a win for the Galaxy A54 here.
But in the end, who wins? Galaxy A54 5G or Galaxy M54 5G? 6n1mb

The two devices deliver a very similar experience in of usability and performance, whether in the system or in games. On the battery, the Galaxy M54 5G it gets a few more hours of use, but the A54 is not far behind and both charging up to 25W.
The big fight is really for the cameras. In selfies, they have the same kit and the performance is the same, with good night photos and great daytime photos. The broth thickens on the rear cameras where, despite the better-than-ever main lens, Galaxy M54 5G, the software and the sensor used in the Galaxy A54 5G guarantee a more interesting treatment and slightly better photos, in addition to 4K video at 60 frames per second.
Already in design, the Galaxy A54 follows a top-of-the-line line, even more so with the glass rear. In addition, its chubby body ensures a better footprint. On the other hand, the M54 has a larger screen and such Super AMOLED Plus good, it has a little more contrast. Its sin is that it does not have stereo-quality audio, preventing the headphone-free experience from being supreme here.
Finally, we have the price factor, perhaps the most important one here. Considering that this article is being written in June 2023, both devices can already be found below the 2 thousand reais. O Galaxy A54 5G in the 128 GB version can be found by R$1.738, while the Galaxy M54 is for R$1.699, also in the 128GB version. That said, check out the points of each of them in this comparison and the winner:

Excellent comparison. I preferred to buy the M54 5G 256GB for 1.700,00 instead of the A54 5G 128GB for 1.800,00.
In the dimensions specifications the M54 appears as being thicker, 8.4mm vs 8.2mm, but you said it was thinner. Is the 8.4mm size counting the camera bump? Is it really thinner on the body part?
